Kinda Pregnant (very small spoiler)
Feb 10, 2025
Have you seen the new movie, Kinda Pregnant? If not, here’s a little spoiler alert—but don’t worry, I won’t ruin anything major!
My Favorite Part of Kinda Pregnant
One moment that stood out to me was an exchange between Amy Schumer and Brianne Howey. Brianne, who plays a pregnant woman already parenting a toddler, shares her birth story with Amy.
She explains how no one really talks about the transition to parenthood—how everything is baby-focused until, suddenly, you go through this huge trauma and BAM, you’re a parent. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s why I’m absolutely obsessed with birth stories and supporting people through pregnancy.
Brianne also discusses her postpartum struggles, though she refers to “postpartum” as if it only means postpartum depression. (Spoiler: It doesn’t! There’s a whole other blog post on that here.)
If you want to check out the scene I’m referencing, here’s an interview clip of them discussing it: Watch from 7:45.
Hollywood Still Doesn’t Get Postpartum Right
There’s another scene where they attend a prenatal yoga class and mention doulas. But again—there’s little talk about how to actually prepare for postpartum while pregnant. It’s all just winging it.
Y’ALL, EVEN HOLLYWOOD IS WINGING IT ABOUT POSTPARTUM. 🤦♀️
It does NOT have to be like this.
Final Thoughts: Watch Kinda Pregnant? Yes or No?
So, did I love the movie? Meh. It’s not amazing, but I love love, I love birth stories, and I love supporting parents. Seeing a mainstream film highlight the power of sharing birth experiences was a win in my book.
Would I recommend watching? Absolutely, if only for that conversation.
